Phase III : Rebuilding the engine!
Well, the pistons & rings finally arrived from JE Pistons on the west coast yesterday (May 9th) and I go them right up to Don at Sanel Auto Parts in Manchester, NH to finish the bore on the block. Believe it or not, he fit me in to the schedule and had the block bored and the big end of the rods resized within 24 hours. That guy is great!
I can't believe the dumb mistake I made, but one thing I forgot to do was get the ARP connecting rod bolts to Don so he could use the press to change my OE bolts. So now I've got a package of connecting rod bolts from ARP that fit the 5S-FE and no use for them!
Anyway, above are pictures from the beginning of the engine buildup. As you can see from the third picture above, I chickened out and put the balance shaft in! Actually there was a pressurized oil feed that went into the balance shaft and we were concerned about altering the oil flow.
